Unhappy unlocking the linux machine


Good Afternoon

I have a problem in unlocking my account.

When ever i lock the session and try to unlock by giving the password it doesn't work.

I have to reboot the machine.

PLease help me in unlocking the machine by providing the password with out rebooting the machine.

Distribution and windowmanager ?

What doesn't work?
isn't the password accepted?

Make sure the keyboard is setup correctly when you unlock
eq azerty or qwerty

The keyboard is setup correctly.

And i am typing the correct password.

If i go to text console i am able to login.

But not with grafical if i lock the session.

you did not answer the question with distro and windowmanager you use.
Why did you lock it ?
Because some distro locked it automaticly after a minute or so if do not use it .
Do you use the same password to lock it as you;re login password.

A quick check is to enter the password into the username field (with care) to check for keyboard layout differences or setting of numlock not matching the led.
Sometimes a gdm/kdm or whatever windowmanager you use may be buggy or have missing/nonmatching components. Check with starting to runlevel 3 only, and "startx", then try to lock/unlock.
Would be helpful to have your distribution, and the windowmanager you use.

On my machine (debian testing and gnome) there is no entry for username, just password.

I would suggest to change the password to numbers, so you are sure the keyboard layout is not involved.
Then you can look further from there.
