Question Unix/Linux Storage Server ? webhd !

Is there any storage server software for unix/linux ? Cheapest ?

my company consists of many deps and workstations, and everybody need to have to have a web hard drive to backup and sharing large files frequently.(windows files,or osx,linux...file sys).

some of them also need to go out for sales,contact,manage,enginering...
therefore ,how can them to access to our office's files center and change, write, upload, download files from WAN??? i mean maybe from web browser,he or she may be located from thunsand of miles.....foreign country.?
and log in and out.everyone has a secure, private Controlled/Managed virtual disk space to use.

I know that there are web pocket or web hd host provider out there....

but,we need More storage space,bandwidth,secure .?

is there any way that we can build a storage server from linux ?what software (FREE),distro ???

I mean NO FTP......!!

It is too cumbersome and Limited to use at this case.

Large hard drives backup, sharing over WWW.
and/or application program sharing OVER WWW.
