uninstalling gcc 3.2


i have linux 9 with gcc version 3.2 .. i want to install gcc version 2.8 for some purpose... what are the steps i should take..
plz tell me how to uninstall current version of gcc i.e 3.2 and then how to install older verision 2.8

And Linux 9 does not say much. Is it Slackware? Redhat? Mandrake?.
