rpm -qa | grep vmware

rpm -e whatever the output was of above except for .ix86.rpm

i.e
rpm -e vmware.4.0.1

Thanks

I have been a Linux user for a few years now but could never get
rpm's to uninstall, until now, cheers israel and xscousr. However
doing the uninstall over a ssh, without a -v. Seems to have
stopped responding but doing a ps proves that it is still going,
but when I try and end it, it doesn't end. Its been going for 20
minutes now, hmm all very strange.

Silly me, just checked if its installed still and it doesnt seem to be,
perhaps it just doesn't like to be uninstalled over ssh :/

Installing a prefered version now, and its hanging also. This is
why I like Linux a challenge!

4 Years at it and still a newbie, but then life is one long learning curve.

Okay, now I have problems

Well read my post above for a bit of history, but here is what I have done
since. I gave it a reboot and it cleared up some stuff then did a
whereis vmware and removed the /etc/vmware and /lib/vmware folders.

Did a locate vmware and nothing really left, did a ps on vmware and
nothing is running.

Fine, me thinks, to install my older version, 4.05 (just removed 4.5)
so that I can move across my vhd and do my uni demo on Tuesday.
No such luck, complains that the rpm is older then the one installed.

" package VMwareWorkstation-4.5.1-7568 (which is newer than VMwareWorkstation-4.0.5-6030) is already installed"

I try to install the new one and remove it again to no avail, inc with
the replace file switch.

"error: %preun(VMwareWorkstation-4.5.1-7568) scriptlet failed, exit status 127"

What a mess ay!

Would like to overcome this hurdle then format and start again.
Sorry I havent posted many details but guess its better to ask for
relevant details then me post loads of crap meaningless ones.
Speaking of relevant ones, running RedHat9 with no kernel or other
kind of patches.

Cheers,
mengo
