Question Unigraphics - UX

Hi,
I wonder if there is any archlinux user who managed to install unigraphics 8.5. I found some information about running it on Ubuntu, but couldn't manage to install it on arch.

Quote:
ug nx 8.5 can be used on different platforms (not only SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 SP1 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0) with ug_install modified.
1)Delete exit 1 at Line 100 to disable Linux version check.
2)Find suitable X11/app_defaults folder and replace all "X11_DEFS_DIR=/usr/lib/X11/app-defaults" to "X11_DEFS_DIR=<path>/X11/app-defaults"(e.g. Ubuntu:/etc/X11/app-defaults)
3)Add the line "X11_DEFS_DIR=<path>/X11/app-defaults" under "else" at Line 98 to manually help ug_install define X11 folder when the Linux version is not SLES11 or RHEL6.
4) Hacked. Go and commit suicide .
Quote:
Remember to install libstdc++5 and libmotif3. Some newer versions of Linux only have libmotif4, you have to download libmotif3(rpm or deb or blablabla...) As UG NX 6 needs these two libraries, I am not certain whether UG NX 8.5 can run without them. Bigtiger has reported that lmgrd does not run properly due to a lack of libraries, and libstdc++5 & libmotif3 may be a possible cause.

Furthermore, ksh and tcsh are needed.
I successfully installed ux but failed to install license server software. Installer log doesn't show much more information actually :

And this is the full readme file :

I would install those dependencies first.
I sometimes have got through that sort of thing by putting the pieces in manually, but with a Siemens license, I wouldn't even bother trying. This is typical of them.

That could be dependencies - or it could be anything. It says there's an Installer script. Can you look past the stuff that worked and see what is left? Then you can figure out what it is trying to do when it barfs.

Seems they hired a retired university lecturer to script those scripts . . .and gave him loads of time.

It seems like the first script completes OK and it wants a Java vm for the second one (bin.sh). have you tried running 'java /path/to/lax.jar'? I'll bex that's where your error comes.

How can i run it ? There is no lax.jar file on my system.

It doesn't worth to spend so much time to just install it. Thanks again. I wish they make more user/distribution friendly installations on next versions.

lax.jar should be part of the install, I gather. Best forget it, I agree.

I got 8.5 working the other day. F17. The licence server would not work. I gave up, installed the license server on a windows box running in a virtual machine, and pointed the F17 client to it.

A few notes.
Installer script was a PITA. All the foo.tar.z files need to be renamed FOO.tar.Z (case sensitive installer)
The other installer to fix the installation - it didn't work. there is a way to dump the patches to a folder (--target switch I believe). That's what I did, and they copy (overwrite) the original files with the ones dumped in the --target folder.
Also - if the program is failing - run it through strace (strace ./ugii/ugii 2>&1 > /tmp/ug_strace.txt) then try to figure out what blew up.

I made a start up script like this:

export UGS_LICENSE_SERVER="28000@address.of.your.licenseserver"
export UGII_BASE_DIR=/usr/local/ugs085
export UGII_ROOT_DIR=/usr/local/ugs085/bin
exec /usr/local/ugs085/ugii/ugii

If you Xserver locks up after the install - delete you home/.nx folder and try again.

the application does not run very well. The window management doesn't work well. the application complains about using the Mutter WM from fedora, but I'm still monkeying with it.

Good Luck. Post back your progress.

Yeah i've had the same problem with license server. Yesterday i managed to run Solidworks 2010 via Wine. Kinda laggy, maybe because of wine. Thanks for your answer, please post here if you manage to install license server.
