Uniform MP3 library

Here's the deal: I've got a collection of MP3s that I encoded back in Windows. Over time I tried different encoders to make the MP3s (MP3Workshop and Musimatch to name just two). So I have a mix of encoder styles. Some of the files are "free bitrate" format, and mpg123 complains about that. Some are interpreted incorrectly (i.e. a 4MB file is said to last only 12 seconds), and some are considered corrupt (i.e. mpg123 gets a segmentation fault when it tries to play the file).

I'm looking for some piece of software (or group of utilities) that will:
1.Analyze the MP3s and report any errors detected
2. Offer to correct those errors it feels it can fix
3. Normalize the volume throughout the collection

I was hoping someone here might know of something they have used. I searched on sourceforge and freshmeat and there was a horde of audio editing programs, but most of them seemed to be geared for the hardcore audiophile. I did come across "normalize" which satisfies #3, but the priority is to fix the MP3s first.
