I saw this feature while compiling kernel. As I remember you can add any string just after the kernel version, e.g. you can got uname output like "2.6.13.3MyKernel"

You can add flags to uname so that they just show one certain thing. Open a terminal and execute man uname for a list of flags.
And you can make aterm transparent, but I don't know how as I use the normal Gnome terminal (which I managed to make transparent too)

sweet, thanks to for the replies, i ended up figuring out my problems, to change the uname output i had to recompile my kernel and change the uname options within the source, and transparency, the link i was handed worked wonders, thanks
