Unable to watch videos youtube


I have ubuntu and I am not able to view videos on youtube. They will start but they are choppy and they skip. Can someone tell me what I need to do.

need info about what happens under other circumstances, to compare.
same connection (ethernet, modem, whatever) but different computer or os?
does the playback skip if you play the same youtube vid, but fully downloaded?

what type of net connection do you have ??? dsl,1 meg cable 4 meg cable 20 meg cable ,2 Gig fiber ,
or wireless sprint "3g" , what is it

also is it the same at DIFFERENT times ( is 3 pm the same as 2 am )

Slow Internet connection, non-optimal video driver, machine lacks resources, too many applications running, browser problem, ISP deliberate throttling policy ... the list goes on and on. But guess what? -- without more information, we can only guess.

Sounds like a caching issue. If you play the video in it's /tmp/FLASH* version, is it still choppy?

mplayer -ao alsa -vo xv /tmp/FLASH*

This is pretty much how I have to play them since I'm on dialup. Also note that HD can be a bit demanding on old computers.

Unable to watch videos on youtube

I have a new Dell Mini computer and wireless Internet from Verizon. I can take my Internet card and hook it up to my sons computer with windows on it and we are able to see the video, however when I try on my computer no mater what time of day it is the same.
I have tried shutting everything else down on my computer and still no luck.
