Anyhow, since you followed my original advice then (which apparently worked and then somehow stopped working), the file /usr/lib/libssl.so.4 which we created as a symbolic link to /usr/lib/libssl.so has become an empty file. So let's re-create the symbolic link:

I did what you said. Now when i use the command to connect the net i get this error

Relax & don't panic.This method always works, I think you have created enough mess in that folder. I would request you to reinstall Ubuntu and start afresh. First install Sify BB dialer and run "sifyconnect" as expected you will get an error message. Now type following:

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8 /usr/lib/libssl.so.4

&

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8 /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.4

and finally type the following at the terminal :

sudo -H sifyconnect

and bingo! off you go to www. Pls keep me posted.

It is not clear from the previous posts if the software your ISP is providing needs to be built, or if it is a binary.
