unable to print with CUPS if printer wasn't on when computer start

Hi, I have a EPSON STYLUS C40UX printer (usb port) which supported my CUPS.

If my printer wasn't on when I start my computer, I won't be able to print anything. say if I turn on the printer, and click print. The printer will load the paper, and you will be able to hear typical printing sound. When the paper comes out, it has nothing on it.

Even if I go to http://localhost:631/admin, add printer, and test page. Still nothing show on my paper. So far, the only way I can go around that is by rebooting my computer and make sure my printer is on, so that my computer can read off hardware (usb?) information.

Any suggestions how I can avoid rebooting computer all the time "if" I need to print stuff?
Maybe I need some hardware usb probe first or...!?

Thanks for your time

have you tried restarting cups after turning on the printer?
In mandrake, it would be
service cups restart
(as root). I'm not sure about slackware but there has to be a way to stop and start cups. maybe
/etc/init.d/cups restart
(as root) will do it.
