unable to install netbeans ,urgent help needed, its required for a final sem project!!
Hi all,
I recently downloaded netbeans 6.1 and jdk 6u....
Apparently i am doing this errand for a friend of mine who has no experience in linux...
I am familiar with solaris and quite fine with linux...
So i downloaded the jdk's .bin file and installed it on the system.....
But when i tried installing netbeans it says something like, "class, home"
or something like that , i am not sure.....
But the installlation quits once there is a check done for JVM...
It says checking JVM ,then i get this class thing, as not found....
Unable to find jdk ,plesase check if jdk installed and try again....
i am very sure that jdk is installed....
So could you pls help me out in solving this issue?
Do i have to set some path to jdk while installing netbeans?
My friend is using FC3

FC3 is ancient, and with an error message "something like, class, home or something like that", I'm not sure where to even begin. First thing I'd check, is to make sure that the symlink going to the JVM install is correct, and is actually pointing to what you installed from the .bin.
Can you please elaborate on it?
I didnt get the point ,when you said "i would check for the symlinks"
what do you mean?
Symbolic links? To the Java install/JVM install directory? You said you were quite fine in Linux, and knew Solaris as well...Since you installed the .bin, it probably installed in /usr/jre-1.6.x, or /usr/jvm-1.xxx. There is a symbolic link from /usr/java, to somewhere (usually). Where does it point? If it's to the wrong place, delete the incorrect symlink, and make a new one to the correct location.
And you can you elaborate on the error message????
hi, im also having some problems installing netbeans. i don't really need it but i would definitely like to have it installed on my machine. anyway, upon running the installation it says it can't find the jdk dir so i downloaded the latest jdk and upon installation i get the following error: /bin/sh is needed by sun-javadb-core-10.3.1-4.1 i checked to see if the file was there and it is..any ideas?
