Unable to fixmbr in Windows XP Pro

I am unable to fix the master boot record in Windows XP Pro and it seems that its causing a GRUB installation freeze when trying to
install SuSE Linux 10.0 as there appears on the black screen the
message:

GRUB Loading stage 1.5.

GRUB Loading, please wait...
Error 22

Does anyone have any clue on what can be done to stop the GRUB
installation freeze?

Well this is your lucky day, because you can finally can that windows partition and install to the whole drive

GRUB error 22 means "bad partition table" or "no such partition".

Why do you think this has to do with the MBR?

There must be something on the Suse boards about this. I seem to see problems raised every couple of weeks.
Maybe a dodgy version of parted or whatever.

Offhand I'd say some partitions have been moved - not grubs fault, it's just the victim.

Man, I wouldn't be going anywhere near Suse - 10 especially.
