Question Unable to exclude with tmpwatch

Running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 on Dell PowerEdge 2950 setup to be an FTP server. Have all departments setup to copy their files to their own /home/user directory. Currently have a clean_home job in /etc/cron.weekly that runs: /usr/sbin/tmpwatch -m 168 /home/*/ |grep -v mydir.
Originally I ran /usr/sbin/tmpwatch -x /home/mydir -m 168 /home/*/.
The intent is to keep any files in /home/mydir from being removed along with all the other /home directories files. BUT, neither one of these commands are performing as desired. My files are still being removed.
How can I correct this problem? Occasionally, a particular department may ask that their files remain for more than 7 days and I need to be able to accommodate them.
All help is greatly appreciated.

Since I did not receive any further guidance on this issue, I ended up creating individual entries in my clean_home job.
Such as: /usr/sbin/tmpwatch -m 168 /home/user1
/usr/sbin/tmpwatch -m 168 /home/user2
/usr/sbin/tmpwatch -m 168 /home/user3
etc, etc.
Now if someone needs longer time on their files, I change them individually.
