What happens if you run firefox-bin directly, without using the firefox or run-mozilla.sh scripts?

It needs some libraries that are located in its own directory in order to run, so you'll have to use the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable. If it isn't firefox itself that is segfaulting (but rather something within one of the other scripts), the following should work:

Code:
 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/firefox /usr/local/firefox/firefox-bin

Code:
[schneidz@hyper schneidz]$ echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/usr/X11R6/lib:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules:/usr/local/firefox

[root@hyper root]# echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/usr/X11R6/lib:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules

[schneidz@hyper schneidz]$  LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/firefox /usr/local/firefox/firefox-bin
Segmentation fault

[schneidz@hyper schneidz]$ /usr/local/firefox/firefox
/usr/local/firefox/firefox-bin
running...

/usr/local/firefox/run-mozilla.sh: line 428:  7291 Segmentation fault      "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
exit code = 139
[schneidz@hyper schneidz]$ /usr/local/firefox/run-mozilla.sh

run-mozilla.sh: Cannot execute .

[schneidz@hyper schneidz]$
i also did 'chmod -R 777 /usr/X11R6/lib' but no matter which way i run it it still segfaults.

thanks zhangmaike
much appreciated.

Well, I'm officially stumped. Since you installed firefox after the copy problems, it's unlikely that it's another pemissions problem, but the fact that the segfault doesn't happen for root implies that it is a permissions problem. I've googled around, but I can't find anything similar enough to be helpful.

You may have better luck posting a specific question about this in a fresh thread.

If your other browsers work, you may want to use them in the mean time. I wouldn't recommend making a habit of running any web browser as root.

i searched and found someone else with a similar problem so i added my 2 cents here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=433445

i installed from source from here:
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs...la_Source_Code

it installs the unstable nightly called deer park.
approx 2 hour build.
