Hi -

This isn't a "Linux" question per se: the problem is connectivity to your Oracle server:

1. The TNS Listener isn't running
2. TNS isn't configured correctly
... and/or ...
3. Something in your network environment (for example, a firewall) is blocking the TNS port (typically port 1521).

Please read this, and try to follow the troubleshooting tips methodically:

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B...roublestng.htm

STRONG SUGGESTION:
Forget "sqlplus" for now. Focus on "tnsping".
If you can get "tnsping" to work, you should be home free.

IMHO .. PSM

Again, spell out your words. And you say you've been trying to work with linux for 3 months...have you bought a book, or read any of the Oracle how-to guides you can find online???

paulsm has it right...you've got a network issue, or your Oracle isn't set up and working correctly. So contact Oracle, as was suggested to you in your other thread, and have them help you with your basic problems. They can probably even point you to the user-guides on their knowledgebase.
