Unable to change fonts in Emacs on KDE 3.1-13 Red Hat

Dear all,

I'm having some trouble configuring Emacs to my liking. I have successfully changed the colors (using color themes), but I have not been able to change fonts or fontsizes.

Using the normal Shift-Mouse1 procedure quickly resizes the window for a moment, but then it returns back to the old size, and the font hasn't changed. I have tried changing the .Xdefaults file and .emacs file as outlined in other posts. However, these seem to have no effect on the problem.

So, it seems my desktop is forcing Emacs to use only one font. I haven't found an option that would influence this setting. Other posts have suggested that unchecking the option "Apply fonts and colors to non-KDE applications" would influence this. However, there is no such option on my system.

Anyone have any suggestions? All help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

F.Pokale

Ps: I don't have root priviledges, which might rule some answers out...
