unable to boot up linux ghost image

I used Norton Ghost tool to create an image of a linux 2.0 , installed in a hard disk. Then using the same tool, I copied the Linux image into another , hard disk.

This is a copying complete( or whole) configuration of Linux from one system to another.

But after copying Iwas unable to boot my new system, where I have copied. It goes to IDE0-1, to search for the boot file, and show LI.. , and hangs up.

Where as my original system from where I have created the ghost image boots up with LILO...

What to do ?

Welcome to LQ!

First, let me say, how much homework did you do before posting? Google is your friend. ;-)

I spent 5 seconds typing into a Google search "lilo boot code errors" and another second copying this string for you:
Code:
The first stage boot loader was able to load the second stage boot loader,
but has failed to execute it. This can either be caused by a geometry mismatch
or by moving /boot/boot.b without running the map installer.
When you copied the Ghost image to the other hard drive, it did not install the boot loader into the MBR. Although I've never done this, you might be able to boot with the install CD and then run liloconfig and setup LILO.

Please go back to user cp and list your distribution in your control panel. This will help us know
what you're using, so we can give you more intelligent answers.

Always when I have Ghosted Linux installations I have had to reinstall the bootloader, for the reasons Chinaman outlined above. Simply boot into the newly ghosted system using a rescue CD or boot floppy and then run /sbin/lilo (if you use Lilo) or /sbin/grub-install (if you use Grub). To grub-install you must supply the device name on which the bootloader is to be installed.

Now I tried to boot my system, boots up with floppy ,where I have installed the ghost images, but it now hangs up at the prompt " LIL".

Just before this ,I gets the following views on the screen ........
" Found floppy -ok,
LILO ................................ "

Then a black screen appears ad if it has been booted completely with LINUX icon on the left hand top corner. After that it comes back to hang up situation.

"LIL" denotes that - The second stage boot loader has been started, but it can't load the descriptor table from the map file. This is typically caused by a media failure or by a geometry mismatch.

I have used the lilo loader on the floppy ( for booting) from the link http://home.att.net/~lilo-boot/liloflop.htm
