Unable to boot in CentOS 5.4
 
Hi,
I recently upgraded to CentOS 5.4 from 5.3 . after rebooting, the grub is coming showing all the available OS's , when i choose CentOS in it, the screen goes off, monitor and cpu are still on..??

try booting into single mode. you can do this by selecting the kernel line at the grub menu
and editing it - appending the word single or S in the line like:

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-164.el5 ro root=/dev/vg00/lvsys00 rhgb quiet single

then see if it'll boot into single mode.

any chance you are using an nvidia graphics card?

Hi,
I tried with what you have told..
it starts some services, and then directly command prompt comes..
i cant see any GUI for logging in, only black background and command prompt.. ??

That is because you are in sngle user mode.
What is the output of X -probeonly?

As and when i type X -probeonly, the screen is goin off.. i cant even see a single line of the output..
please please help..!!
