Unable to access X windows logged in as root.

When I run startx : Thisi s what I get

Xlib : connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib : No protocol specified.

xinit : unable to conect to X server

Can you look at your XFree server log file and post us some related info that could help us to give an advice I do
~# less /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 | grep Protocol
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
I guess you haven't configure your mouse right - I have experienced such problems
and in the log
~# less /var/log/XFree86.0.log | grep protocol
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)

If it doesn't help post us more info about your system (grphic card system type etc) and the versions of the kernel and the XServer
