Unhappy UML kernel panic

I've tried many, many, combinations and attempts to make User Mode Linux work, but kernel panics and errors came in the way. I must be doing something wrong.

Code:
VFS: Cannot open root device "98:0" or unknown-block(98,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(98,0)
This happens wether it's a blank root_fs, or the slackware root_fs.

Can someone help me out please? thank you

*edit*
and make sure the root_fs is umounted before launching uml linux. very important, and kill any other instances of uml linux that are still accessing that root_fs. Sending the kill signal in konsole just doesn't do it, you have to bring up top and kill them manually

I did it!

For those wondering:
If it has a kernel panic, in your uml directory:
make clean
cp arch/um/defconfig .config
[then follow the instructions in the howto]

Do not use the configs for your host machine, then run xconfig, that doesn't work... :P and don't use i386's default config, that doesn't work either, I tried that too.

If it shows that it can't read /dev/udb/0, mount the root_fs, and change fstab so that the root directory is /dev/udb0.
