Ultima Online hangs on Connecting

Beleive it or not I managed to get both AoS 2D & 3D to install without a hitch.

Since the shards I play on use UOGateway I had to get the IP's and file URL's from them to be able to connect and play.

One of my shards has given me the info and I chnaged what needed to be and then tried to connect.

In both versions I get as far as "Connecting" and nothing else. It just sits there forever.

I tried making a No_Crypt_Client using UORice to see if it would help but it hung just the same.

Any advice for a Linux novice and UO vet would be appreciated.

BTW, I quit using Windows because it was far too buggy abd the last install would not even let me onto the net.

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux-Software and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

Check if you machine is sending anything first. Run the program and try to connect. Then open a terminal and type
netstat
In the first secion ('Active Internet connections (w/o servers)') you should have a connection mentioned to the server (check if the right IP is on the list).

It's amazing what a little checking will do for you.

I did what you suggested and saw that it was in fact not sending to the IP of the shard so I checked the Login file and saw the error that should have hit me in the face before. It now connects and runs. Too bad the 3D version won't go but maybe in the future it will.

Thanks for your help on this one. Now it's off to playing time.
