ubuntu software center lists outdated software

I am using 12.04 and i have noticed that when i search for a program, it lists the older version. For example, the openshot and scribus were both 1.4.0 when there are like three stable editions higher. So how do i get ubuntu software center to list current up to date softwares? Thanks. I appreciate it. I am trying not to be so needy hah

12.04 is a LTS version, which means that usually software versions don't change during its lifetime. You might be able to get newer versions of some packages using the backports repository, but this seems not to be the case for Scribus and Openshot. You might find them in a PPA, but with using PPAs you leave the officially supported path, which might give you problems in case of system upgrades.
