Ubuntu Settings - Desk Top has little memory

I am new to Linux and recently downloaded Ubunto. After some tweaking (namely getting the wireless card to be recognised) I am now ready to fly. BUT seems the desk top and the 'My Documents' folder have just 14 mbs of memory. I can see the HD and enter it by clicking on the drive but can't seem to download and save to it. My desk top with three short cuts is now full.

Where are the settings to change this?

Lost!

Thanks for responding - Not sure what a wubi install is! I install it using a USB drive! It is the latest 9.2 Ubuntu.

Can you open a Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and run df, then copy and paste the output here? This will give us a better idea of your disk space situation.

I ran the DF command and got this:

Your ubuntu partition is too small (+/- 2Gb). What size is your computers HDD and what other operating systems are loaded on it?

The HD is 187 gb and I had loaded Linux on here before but thought that had been erased in the process of loading Ubuntu.

I only want /use one Opsys - so what steps do I take to increase the space to my Ubuntu OpSys?

Thanks so much for your help - I feel I am getting there slowly...

I have a lot to learn clearly - plus need to find out how to get my Ubuntu to commit the passkey for the wirelss access to memory!

BE WARNED the following will remove all data from your hard disk!!

Start your ubuntu installation from scratch again and when you reach the "Prepare Disk Space" screen:

1) check that the correct disk to install to is displayed in the centre bar.

2) select "Use the entire disk" and click Forward.

Complete the remaining screens to finalize the installation.

I have now found that Del when starting gets me to the BIOS have have changed the boot uo to USB - Now I get to a screen with a menu 'Installer Boot menu'.

Try Ubuntu without any change
Install Ubuntu
Check Disc for Defects
Test Memory
Boot from first Hard Disk
Advanced Options
Help

Which of these do I go for to re-partition my HD?

OK have now found that 'Installing Ubuntu' has taken me to the partitioning screen and i have no selected 'entire disk' - it is now 'installing system' again!

Excellent - it has now rebooted and I see my Desktop has a memory now of 169 GB.

Now to get started

Thanks
