Ubuntu, Opera and Java

I have installed opera 8.5 on ubuntu 5.04. I have also configured java 1.5 in the tools -> preferences -> contents -> java options...

When visiting a page with a java applet, it launched the applet in a separate window and not in the area on the page canvas. Does anyone have the same problem? How can opera be configured so that the java applet run in the page rather than a separate window?
