Ubuntu Not Logging into Sites Like Gmail and Facebook on an Intel Pentium 4 Mobile

Hello, recently I've been having trouble accessing websites like Gmail and Facebook on Ubuntu. My laptop can make it as far as the login screen and then never logs in. I use Firefox 3.0.4 on an Intel Pentium 4 Mobile CPU 1.60GHz with 640 MB of RAM. I tried logging into these sites on Windows XP on the same computer and they worked fine just fine. Any help is much appreciated, and thank you in advance.

P.S. On Ubuntu my Nvidia adapter is enabled. It's an NVIDIA GeForce2 Go.

Gmail and Facebook run apps in your browser. To access the sites you need to ensure you have cookies and javascript enabled.

With firefox, suggest you install the noscript plugin to enable javascript by site, and use a whitelist for cookies.

The problem still occurs. I've enabled javascript and cookies with no avail. I've noticed however that when I load Gmail in basic HTML form it works just fine. What does this mean? And also, I experimented with a Google image search and found that only a few of the images (all in jpg) loaded. This is really starting to get to me...
