Thanks in advance amritpalpathk.blogspot.com |
Are you saying that you were greeted with a console prompt instead of the gdm login screen?
If so, try (I'm not sure if the version you are using uses upstart or not so I will list two): Code:
sudo service gdm restart Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart Are you using a proprietary driver? You may also want to edit the title to Ubuntu [wubi] login black screen at boot So people will know that you are using wubi. |
I am using Nvida graphics card
|
Both commands gives the error
/usr/bin/basename :2:Syntax Error word unexpected (expecting ")") Thanks amritpalpathak.blogspot.com |
Well till now i am unable to fix it.I just login into black screen successfully.I can do "cd" to home folder and others too.I tried to copy my important directories from home folder to hard drive but still i gives the strange error.
I did. sudo cp kannel /media/data Here data is name of hard drive .It gives following error message. /bin/cp: /:Syntax Error: word unexpected(expecting")") Please help me to copy it so then i will again installed my ubuntu(no option left) Thanks amritpalpathak.blogspot.com |
You installation seems to have a weird problem.
You might be best served using an Ubuntu LiveCD to mount the partitions that contain your data and your data partition and copy the files over from there. |
Now i am using Live cd .Can you please help me how i can save my data ?
I will be greatful to you amritpalpathak.blogspot.com |
post the output of

Do you know which partition contains your ubuntu installation?
If you are unsure, go to http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net follow the instructions and post the RESULTS.txt with your reply. |

you can also Code:
sudo mount /dev/sda7 /media/data Then, if you still can't boot to the GUI : Log into your ubuntu install (at the black screen) and try Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install --reinstall nvidia-common Quote:
