Ubuntu Installing
Hy to everyone, I'm a newby of Linux and I want to start entering in Linux world. I'm trying to install Ubuntu 5.04 on my Toshiba Portegè 3010CT.
The problem is that this laptop can't boot from CDROM (cause it's a PCMCIA CDROM). I can use CDROM in dos mode with command-line drivers so I can read data from Ubuntu CDRom. Is there someone that can explain me exactly what I have to do for installing Linux on this machine? I need a cemplete explanation cause I'm a NEWBY. Many thanks to everyone!!! |
Do you have a floppy drive? If so you should be able to make a bootable floppy disk that will then kick off the installer from the CD.

Same issue, but need help "making" the bootable floppy. Mandrake 9.1's pcmcia.img file works fine for Mandrake, but won't work on anything but 9.1. I tried Mandriva 2006, but the pcmcia drivers fail to load. I also tried the Ubuntu's suggestion of Smart Boot Manager, which doesn't even recognize the CDROM. I really want to go with Ubuntu on this one, but may have to role back to something else.
