Ubuntu failing to load after splash?
I've had linux ubuntu on my old pc a day now and when i went to turn it on today It loaded the spalsh screen, loaded all the bar and now has just gone to a black screen.... I can see and move the cursor, but nothing can be done. Can anyone help me here. Or do i have to suffer a whole new install? Thanks

Boot it without the options 'quiet' and 'splash'
Press e to edit in grub (the edit will be temporary ... for the session) Post relevant messages What happens in rescue mode? you can log in directly as root and #apt-get check #apt-get update #apt-get upgrade |
Well i've only used linux once when it ran so i have no idea about any of linux. Ill e when the pc loads. And i went to rescue mode and it ran in like a dos screen and asked for password and username so i typed them in then it argued that they were wrong.... I'll have a fiddle again in a few minutes

No recovery mode didn't work i did a compleate hardware check, from the pc and from inside. Looks like a re-install is needed :/
