ubuntu and grub wont see XP partition

just reformatted and reloaded my system with a winxp partition,

I restored from a back up but I do not know the syntax to put in the /boot/grub/menu.lst to get it to see the new3 XP partition.

My device is xp hda2, ubuntu hda1 and fedora hda4. ubuntu and Fedora work fine. But i get an error on the Xp menu option.

Can someone post the stanza I need to add for XP.

I did a search but not finding what i need.

I can now see the menu entry but get

error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format
Press any key to continue...
Thanx

You're past Grub and into the windows bootloader which is not working. The error message

Quote:

<windows root> \systems32\hal.dll
is from xp. Check your system32 folder in the root partition to see if the hal.dll file is there.

Only time I've seen that was on a system that needed to boot into a vendor partition to setup the real boot (i.e. the vendor partition was deleted/skipped) and/or the boot.ini pointed to the wrong partition for the Windoze entry.

Pardon me for sounding dumb here but how do i do that if I cannot boot windows?

XP is the 0-50G on the first partition. It was loaded first then I loaded Ubuntu and Fedora from a Acronis backup image.. If that helps any.

You re-installed xp, Fedora and Ubuntu? In that order? Which system are you using to boot, Ubuntu? Fedora? xp?

You need to mount your windows partition in Ubuntu or Fedora to be able to see the files to see if your hal.dll file is there, if that's the error you are still getting. If you are booting from Grub first, does windows start to boot before you get the error?
