Ubuntu 6.06 Upgrade issue

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 6.06 and the install went perfectly. But when PC rebooted, I was asked for a username and password, which I never had to input in my earlier version. How do I get past this screen, or find out Ubuntu thinks my previous username and password was?

Did you ever have a user name and password in your previous version?

I don't believe I ever entered a username and password originally, since Ubuntu has always booted right to the desktop screen. If I had to put them in back in the original install, I can't recall them since I never have to use them.

Try booting up with the boot option of "init=/bin/bash". This should get you quickly into the bash shell as root. Then look at the name of the subdirectory in /home. It is probably the same as your username.
Then you can enter "password <username>"
to reset your password to something that you know.
( Now if your bootloader also has a password!!! )
