I would expect that, if your /etc/apt/sources.list file points to the correct repositories, Ubuntu should download the correct version of the driver, but that is a possibility.
The link I posted includes links to the 64-bit driver in several formats. You could try downloading the *.deb file from that link and then installing it with
dpkg (when dpkg is installed, it should appear in the right-click "open with" menu in your file manager).
It's been a while since I used Ubuntu. I'm not sure that it includes dpkg by default, but it's in the repos.
Let us know what happens.
