Ubuntu 14.04 AMD 64Bit or Ubuntu 32Bit?
Hi guys,i've been getting problems with video legging on some streams like Espn3 on Ubuntu 14.04lts Amd 64bit,special on FireFox28, and Chrome is ok,then i installed Xubuntu 14.04 32Bit and now don't have none of those issues.
My question is Ubuntu 14.04 AMD 64bit instead of Ubuntu or xubuntu Intel 32bit might it be the cause of these issues, since my machine is
Lenovo Intel core(tm) I5 2400 CPU 3.10ghz ,3.8Gib Mem
It has Intel integrated HD 2000 but i've got and run an ATI AMD 6450 Video Card with fglrx video drivers
I Mostly use PC to stream live TV.
Can someone tell me if i'm running the wrong Ubuntu ISO?,
should i run Ubuntu 32bit instead of AMD64Bit? thanks

a 64bit iso will not install on a 32bit machine.
a 32bit iso will install on a 64bit machine.
there's a rule of thumb, i think if you got more than 2 cpu's and more than 4GB of ram, then you lose performance if you run 32bit OS, otherwise it's about the same. but that is just hearsay, and it's up to you to research it.

Thanks ondoho;today i installed Xubuntu 14.04 lts 64 bit and everything runs smoothly,
i noticed that xubuntu has Firefox 29,and Ubuntu14.04 has Fire fox28, maybe that's why i had those legging issues with video !

I seriously doubt that. Unless there is a known bug in Firefox 28, I wouldn't expect much difference in performance between those versions. I'm using Iceweasel 24.5 and and I don't experience any lagging problems.

But we're talking about Firefox (Iceweasel is just Debian's unbranded Firefox) not Chrome.

64bit vs 33bit
64 bit better ...
However, depends ..
Not all software is 64bit, depending om distro you may need to 'do a fight' to get ot installed.
Your lag issues are more likely 'network' related
Wifi?
what's your broadband like?
Might be you've hit sone limit and they capped you.
I used to get this in uk with virginmedia, bbc iplayer hd would get 'laggy' or 'choppy' because they had limited my dl.
Don't have that problem these days, as they raised the limits..
Options..
Upgrade service
Tweak cache settings, may need to use third party program to get a decent cache option
Third option
Download and play later.
Anyway
32bit, 64bit.. should make no difference with what you describe

i've had similar issues in the past and it took me ages to find out that it has nothing to do with my computer.
sometimes (but not always) my isp would throttle my bandwidth. it might happen when torrenting, or after i've used the tor network - in that case only a network card reset would help (so, if it's in your laptop: reboot).
there's also the fact that UPloading too much affects DOWNload speed as well.
that's why i always have a limit on upload speed in transmission.
make an online bandwidth test!
edit: whoaa! noticed that op just re-pasted their first post. that's a neat trick. maybe i should start doing that as well. or just post my signature.

If that's correct it would be happening on all my Computers and on all Distros,as i said it only did it on Ubuntu 14.04 Firefox28,on Google Chrome it was good, and also i had other computers that had Xubuntu and win Vista that were ok,and now that i installed xubuntu 14.04 64 bit i have no problems with firefox legging now,so it's not my internet bandwith which is 3.0Mb DSL which is plenty for video streaming.

In that case, not sure..
I suppose an auto apt update cache may have got in the way.
The important thing is it is working for you now
Personally I think 3.0 megabits per second is a minimum and not plenty for streaming
3mbits/s is around 350 kilobytes per second
just enough for sd video
perhaps it was coincidence that you were getting lag while a windows box was caching windows updates? Mind you, that's normally around 3am (or is it 2am?)
