Question typing in MEPIS konsole problem..

I use MEPIS by booting up from a CD. I have experience with Linux , Redhat etc. and in those, when i type programs(C programs) i have used 'i' to switch to "Insert Mode" and ESC to switch to command mode.
But i tried several things, and read the manuals etc.. but still coudnt figure out how it works in the Mepis konsole (terminal) ??
when i type it gives rather funny output..
for e.g the Backspace and delete keys won't work !! etc etc. Please tell me how it works in Mepis..

I think you are also trying to use vi or vim here. Mepis uses vile or elvis or something like that instead of vim. You will need to install the vim that also has the gtk+ toolkit.

I'm not on my machine at home, so I can't check.

I also don't really like Konsole very much, I've had weird problems with it and the Gnome terminal. I've always preferred plan ol' xterm, it has (IMO) always been the most reliable and predictable.

good luck
