Who needs gui when you can play from a terminal or console with much ease. And from the docs, usage:

Just the plain ol MPlayer that I compiled on my Slackware installation.

Ok, so run it as gmplayer. Then you've got the buttons visible. Otherwise, if you are able to use a command line, us mplayer and the key configs from the docs in the link from Drew.

Does mplayer come pre-installed or RedHat 8.0? where would I get it if it doesn't?
How do I use mplayer? Do I need plugins for regular MPEG2 files?
