First try using the via driver. If that does not work, try updating to Xorg 7. Xorg developers may have fix hardware overlay support. If it still does not work, try buying nVidia graphics card.

The URL that you posted is wrong. Did you mean [url]https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-via/+bug/43154[url]?

Gentoo developers had unmasked Xorg 7.0 server, so I think any distribution should not have any problems using it. I suggest backing up the the whole installation before upgrading. I do not know if apt-get has Xorg 7.0. If it does, then do it. I'll repeat again backup your whole installation before upgrading.

Xorg 7.0 may have trouble detecting the correct amount of mouse buttons. Include Option "ButtonMapping" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to fix the problem. I included Option "ButtonMapping" "1 2 3 4 5" for my button mouse.

Bumping after 12 hours is ok, but to me you are too impatient. I suggest people bump their threads after 24 hours even if the rules say 12 hours.
