Tuxnes and VisualBoyAdvance Problems

I realize this is a shot in the dark, but here it goes. I'm having trouble getting the above-emulators to run smothly on my machine. Both of them only run at about 25% speed--which pretty much makes thm useless. I'm sure my machine can handle it without any problems (2 GHz processor, 384 MB RAM, Geforce 4MX).

I'm running FC2, my Nvidia drivers work just fine thanks to a modified kernel.

Any ideas?
