Turn off screensaver on boot
Each time I boot (FC3, runlevel 5) I have to enter xset s off ; xset -dpms to disable the screensaver, which for the machine in question is not appropriate. Can I put these commands somewhere so it applies to the whole machine each time please?

You can mess with your xorg.conf or XF86Config files to do these things, which would make it work for all users. For instance, commenting out Option "DPMS" would disable power managment. But if it's just you the quickest way would be to add the lines to .xsession in your home directory (or create said file if it doesn't exist).
