TTF fonts and GTK1/2

Hello everyone

I've just successfully installed TTF fonts on my box they appear to be installed correctly because I can use them in all of my programs, but there is one thing bugging me ...
In GTK1 and GTK2 applications fonts are really big and bold, I don't know where to look for a file to change the font size. Tried asking google but no results ....

Could anyone help me?

the .gtkrc file can specify fonts...

gtk-font-name="helvetica 14"

for gtk+2.0 the file is called .gtkrc-2.0
I just have one symlinked to the other on mine and that works fine. Or run the gnome control centre and change the font on that.
