Trying to use SWAT, Samba and install AMSN

Ok Im new here...so Ill get the Hi! Im new bit out of the way now....

Hi! Im new!

Ahem. :D

Trying to setup Samba under RH8. Managed to install it. Now I am trying to get the SWAT going. But I cant do it. I cant access 127.0.0.1:901, or 192.168.0.7:901. There was no inetd.conf file to start off with...so I created one. That didn't help. Ive edited all the other files and so on...made no difference.

Also...with AMSN. Ive installed TCL/TK correctly (as far as I can tell), as well as the C and C++ compilers. I run it and it tells me that: /usr/bin/wish: bad interpreter: Permission denied.

I am logged in as root. It is the only user I use. That is because this linux machine has no role on my network...it is just a learning machine.

What I really need I think is a uber n00b guide for samba...one that tells you how to start your computer up :)

Any help, ideas, flames or comments? :D

Why not editing the smb.conf instead of swat?
