Trying to install Wine but can't seem to add lines to source.list

I am using Debian and I am trying to install Wine to be able to run windows programs but I am unable to add any additional lines to source.list. I have been using GNU nano to add the lines (I was told that I needed to do that from Wine HQ website) but for some reason it doesn't add them. Also I would like to know how I would then go to the text based site to get Wine.

wine is already in the Debian repos, no need to add anything.

Just do apt-get install wine

http://winehq.org/site/download-deb

if they are not in the standard repos for debian, and i think they are, then you can follow that howto to get it installed.

If you are running Debian and NOT Ubuntu please do not follow the above directions. Either use APT from the normal Debian main repos or compile the latest version from winehq.

The latest version to make it into Debian unstable is Version: 0.9.28-1

Keep in mind that having the latest version of wine isn't always the best thing. Find a version that works for you then keep that version, as newer versions tend to introduce new bugs.
