trying to install knoppix 4.0.2 getting stuck on looking for cd in: /dev/hda

I am trying to recover some files from a corrupted hard drive so I downloaded Knoppix 4.0.2 and burned to disc. My bios is set to boot from CD. When I boot up it gets to "looking for cd in: /dev/hda" and just sits there forever. Tried rebooting several times. Tried downloading again and burning to a new disc again and get the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check to be sure that you are using a live CD version instead of an installation CD version. Your error message makes me think that the CD has run an installation program and is looking for the installation kit.

I downloaded from knoppix.com. It said it was a live version.

When it's looking for the cd it should be other than /dev/hda
because that should be the HDD. My knoppix searches at /dev/hdc
which is the CD.
You may need to check your burn.
If you have an other work box check the CD. It should have many icons.
