Trying to install Java in Firefox/Fedora

I've just uninstalled firefox, and all web browser capability from this system, installed firefox fresh via yum, then installed JRE from the official website. Still, I can't get java apps to run on Firefox.

Is there a way I can debug this and see why Firefox doesn't believe I've installed Java?

Firefox is set to use java in edit/preferences/content.

Did you create the symlink from your java plugin to the firefox plugins directory e.g. on my system, I had to do
Code:
#ln -s /usr/java/jdk1.6.0/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/

Ok, that's done. I have /usr/java/jre1.5.0_11 though. Where do I get "jdk"? Maybe that's what's killing me.

pwd:

/usr/lib/firefox-1.5.0.10/plugins (this is the active firefox plugins directory)

ls -l:

4 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 57 Mar 4 05:37 libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /usr/lib/jre1.5.0_11/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so*
28 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 22780 Feb 23 14:32 libnullplugin.so*
20 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 14560 Feb 23 14:32 libunixprintplugin.so*

/usr/lib/jre1.5.0_11/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so <-- this is verified as the JRE plugin library file.

What in the world else could Firefox want?

Wait, I found the solution.

Go to ~/.mozilla/plugins and link the .so file there. That worked.

That should be FAQ'd somewhere, I bet someone else has tripped up on this.

Its quite a common question from newbies and if you had searched in past threads you probably would have found a solution.
