let me say, i think you should start with a different distro.
take a look at distrowatch.com and choose something from the top 10.
linux mint is very good! if you don't like the looks, well that's always easy to change.
first of all you have to get it onto your usb stick; most distros have instructions on their website.
then you should boot into the live environment to see if it works on your hardware. note: at that stage it doesn't matter what is on your hard drive!!!
when you want to install it, you can either install it to your whole hard drive, purging everything that is on it (again, it doesn't matter what).
if you want to keep your windows it's a little trickier and depends on the installer - again, best help is from your distro's webpage/wiki/forum (search before asking).
fwiw, grub is not an operating system, it's a bootloader. the code you posted is totally outdated. but again, it shouldn't matter at all.
