Trying to get 2 warez to work in Ubuntu

I just switched to Ubuntu Linux. So far it has been a good experience, but I have a couple problems with software.

First off, I have been trying to get Java 1.5 to work (or Java 5.0 if you prefer). It comes as an RPM or as source. I tried to get the RPM to work by using alien to convert it to a DEB. However, I could not install it. It just refused to run. This may be because I am not use to a Debian based system, so I might have used the incorrect commands.

Secondly, I want to install WASTE so I can connect to a campus file sharing network. I got the source, and tried to find an install documentation, but couldn't. I'm pretty new to Linux, so I started running the config and make commands to no avail. Anyone have experience with this software?

Thanks for the help.

Please post the errors, so that others could contribute. The information you provided is pretty generic.

Peace!!

There are directions on the Ubuntu forum and their site with regards to installing java.

Sorry I took so long to get back on this

I had to reinstall ubuntu and grub and resizing my partitions overwrote the boot sector (yes, I am that dumb).

Anyways, I got java installed after reading through the instructions on the ubuntu site. It was really just a matter of changing source.list to include multiverse.

However, I still can't get waste to work. As near as I can tell, its almost all written in c++. So, I tried running g++ with the config.cpp and main.cpp with nothing more than errors. I don't have anymore information than that. So, it would help a lot if someone who has installed waste in linux (any distro) could give me an idea of what I need to do.

Thanks again.
