Agree plain text is really best for long term storage of notes because ANYTHING can read it. I have not investigates cherrytree's storage format but believe it is proprietary (and binary). I do believe all notes are exportable. It is great for organization, but suffers from the age-old issue of keeping data in a proprietary format: read that as m$ word docs, etc.
