Troubleshooting - Ruling-out GRUB

I'm posting this here on the off-chance that it's a GRUB related issue. Feel free to dump it in a more appropriate spot.

I've got a dual boot system, XP and Fedora 12. One day it magically decides it can't boot to anything - even a CD unless I manually go into the BIOS' boot menu and tell it specifically which drive to use.

The BIOS sees all drives fine, it just stalls indefinitely when getting to the boot loader. After a while, I thought maybe it's stalling because it can't find the boot loader. But then again - it can't boot CDs, either.

I was able to boot to a cd and check the partitions with gparted - nothing weird there. But I noticed that the Fedora live CD has sector issues on sda.

Thoughts?

Grub comes much later in the picture. The BIOS goes looking for something to kick off - if ain't finding even the CD, sounds like the issue might be the BIOS itself.
