Troubleshooting KMail

Just recently KMail (and therefore Kontact) have had an annoying problem. I start it up, it starts to check mail and then shuts down. Is there a log where errors are kept? Do I need to start the program up in a special way to discover it?

Please help me figure out what's going wrong (before I throw my laptop through the wall).

Thanks!

If you load those apps from the console, you will see the verbose logging going on in the background. This will allow you to go back through an examine where the errors are. Have you any KMail or KDE updates applied to your system recently?
