Troubles with SSH

Hello:
Can anyone help me?. Here is my problem I am running suse 8.2 pro and I am trying to configure ssh to be able to connect remotely, what are the first things I need to do??

just start the "sshd" then you can connect from remote to ur computer.

if you simply want to connect to some other computer from your computer
ssh -l username xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx(or servername)
will do

Thanks, it seems to work, but I have another question, how do I know if it's running, I mean it seems to run, but when I use the ps -A command it does not show anything, if it's running how can I stop it?? can I display a login message? which file should I configure?? Thanks a lot for your help

ps -ef should display all the processes.
there should be something like

root 1323 1 0 10:37 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/sshd

thats your process. you know how to kill that process right...
just use "kill -9 xxxx" (xxxx here is 1323)
