troubles log in with root and default user SUSE 10
 

I have problem to log in as a root and default user in graphic mode, I used to log in with both of them without problems,..I don't know why it's happening, I've create another user account, I don't have problem for a while to log in with this new user account, but I am still having troubles with root and default user.

I hope someone can help me,..

Can you describe what problems you have in more detail?

At least for root you have explicitly to enable graphical log in. Open YAST and search in the "user and groups" module (or in security, I'm not sure) and have a look around there. It's just a click on "enable graphical root login" (or something of that ilk) and you still have to enter user "root" by hand in the login menu, there will be no symbol like for your other users.

still problems X mode.
 

well, as I said, I used to have access to the X mode with the root and user Joel, I installed some software like yahoo messenger, skype, xine, etc. the first think that happened was that the root user just could't be able to access to the X mode. after 2 days, the user Joel couldn't be able to access to the X mode too.. I can use the terminals from 1 to 6 without any problems. those are the follows simptoms.

1) I turn the computer ON
2) I have grafical login screen
3) I issue the user name (root or Joel), and password, but every time it go back to the grafical login screen without any warnning. ( it happens with te root and Joel user).

4) I created as a root a "temp" new user account, with this "temp" new user I can log in to the graphic mode. I can use the superuser (su). but I want to fix the problem to log in as a root and the default user.

yast doesn't show access to graficalmode option to the root.

Umm, I see. This is a good description now. I just did a search here because I remember another thread on LQ about exactly this problem -- but I didn't find it and I don't have that much more time :(.

I suspect it is connected with the groups of your "root" and "Joel" users. Open up YAST -> "user and groups" and come back here and post the available groups and the groups "root" and "Joel" belong to...
