and download the Tor bundle to your home directory. Once there run, as user, tar -xvf filename
that is, the full name of the tor bundle you just downloaded, for example, tar -xvf tor-browser-linux64-3.5.2.1_en-US.tar.xz
That will create a directory/folder named, tor_browser (and whatever language you are using), for example, tor-browser_en-US
Inside that new directory you will find, start-tor-browser
Edit your menu and add this new item or create a new icon/launcher on your desktop, and use, start-tor-browser as the command.
Good Luck.

The last three or four posts are about setting up Tor. I'm stuck.
There is no setting up !
5 years ago there was ( and a lot of setting of things, i have been using tor for YEARS)
but NOT NOW
as to running the tor-bundle
use "cwizardone's" post
you also do not even have to use the terminal to un zip the archive
just "r-click" it and open it with the already installed archive manager JUST LIKE ON WINDOWS 95,98,2000,ME,XP,VISTA,7,8,8.1
all you have to do is "double click " on the one script "start-tor-browser"
it is a all in one bundled set of programs that will launch a custom version of firefox
grabbing a random Endpoint exiting the tor network
now from the other post
you said all you needed was a VPN
there are many
most you need to par a monthly fee for
Yes, it's available to download through synaptic, but on the Tor website they explicitly warn against using that source, since it is infrequently updated.
Nevertheless, I figured I'd try it now. It failed to download even through Synaptic:
for a 64 bit OS install
just use this https://www.torproject.org/dist/torb...1_en-US.tar.xz
the xz archive
r-click on it and open the archive in your archive manager
( the exact same way you used to do on windows xp,vista,7,or8 )
then double click on the script "start-tor-bundle"
